Father Mathew recounts the practical challenges and deep spiritual rewards of his pilgrimage in this clearly written, elegant book. While the story will certainly speak to faithful Catholics of many nationali- ties, it has a larger message for all readers, whether secular or religious. Speaking in a voice that is both wise and humble, Father Mathew's offers readers a tale of compassion and grace. His sensitive, thoughtful and inspiring account draws on literary, religious and historical traditions, creating a narrative collage of symbolism, metaphor, historical anecdote, personal musing, and spiritual insight. It is delightful for me to see him flourishing with his writing since his time as an English literature student of mine at Oakland University.
