Being the daughter of a planter I was born and brought up in an estate atmosphere. Good education required that we children be sent to distant convent schools and colleges. Until I got married I was at home only for the holidays. We were brought up with very good moral values. My mother was a very good homemaker and we were given proper training in managing a home, but the kitchen was out of our domain. So, during the initial years of my married life I found it very difficult to cook proper meals for my husband. My husband being a forest officer we were' forced to live in remote places. This put me into difficult situations since there was no one to quide me when unexpected problems cropped up. Many young girls are facing similar problems during the first few years of their married life. So I decided to be a helping hand for the young homemakers and hence this book.
